Some of you may have read my Tweet last week about big wet spots that appeared on our kitchen ceiling after a strong thunderstorm/downpour. This is what it looked like:
NOT GOOD. Especially because this is the THIRD TIME we’ve had this problem in the past three years! Water somehow keeps getting in where the garage/family room roof meets the side of the the second floor in the back of the house, right above our kitchen windows. The first time (2006), we had that section of roof and ceiling fixed/replaced; then last year, when it happened again, we had the entire garage/family room roof replaced. Overall we spent several thousands of dollars on repairs and we were assured the problem was finally solved.
(Oops, was my frustrated scream out loud? Sorry.)
Thankfully, the roof is still under a 1-year labor warranty from last July. Someone from the roofing company came out to look at it this morning and found several gaps in the caulking where the roof meets the house, which he filled and sealed. And because the leaking was due to faulty work on their part, they are also going to replace the section of the kitchen ceiling (and the garage attic above it) that was damaged. Round two of a huge hole in the ceiling! Woohoo! At least it’s a free hole this time, I guess.
Somewhat related: “His name was Will,” George informed me after the Roof Guy left. “I kinda like it. What do you think of the name William if we have a boy? William, Will…”
Me, after a moment of consideration: “It’s ok, but I still like Andrew or Benjamin better.”
George, ever the History Nerd: “Oliver would have the same name as a Lord Protector of England, and William would have the same name as… hmm…”
Me: “The guy who fixed our roof.”
George, laughing: “Well, we wouldn’t tell him THAT.”
Me, shrugging: “That’s how it goes, when you’re the second child.”

18 weeks! (No big belly yet, but I have gained a lot of weight. A LOT.)
I guess we’ll find out soon if we need to consider naming our child after the Roof Guy: the big ultrasound is two weeks from today!!

Wow, I can’t believe you are that far along already! The five or six weeks since you announced it really flew by!
You look great! I cannot wait until the ultrasound!

William was also a bunch of kings of England… Doesn’t HAVE to be after the roof guy!
You look great! I wish my weight gain was all where yours is!

haha I love that- poor neglected 2nd kid, named after the Roof Guy. Andrea’s right though, you could just pretend it’s after some fancy King!
Sorry about the roof thing AGAIN, but at least it’ll be paid for! What a pain in the butt.

@Andrea:
So I just filled in Roof Guy!
He was trying to decide which was the BEST King William, and that’s why he hesitated. Such a nerd.
I’m pretty sure most people would not guess how much weight I’ve gained by looking at me! I have gained 18 lb (!)… which is way too much for this point, but thankfully my doctor understands (having to go from a low-carb diet to more normal eating habits just packs on the pounds for me). It was like this last time with Oliver, too – I gained 51 lb but never had a big belly. I just look pudgy for the most part. No complaints though. I’ll worry about the weight later!

You look great… the weight never shows on you. Ignore the scale.
I love William and Will but I don’t care for Bill or Willie. There are a lot of names like that for me… love the full version, dislike the nicknames. Sure you could just say, he’ll only go by this, and correct everybody forever, but I prefer to just avoid that confusion altogether.
